Red-Rumpe

Identification:  Red-rumped Parrots, also known as Red-rumped Grass Parrots, are small to medium-sized parrots with vibrant plumage. The males have a predominantly green body with a bright red rump, blue wings, and a blue face. Females have a more subdued coloration, with less blue and red.

Size/Weight: Red-rumped Parrots typically measure around 11-12 inches (28-30 cm) in length and weigh between 1.8-2.5 ounces (50-70 grams).

Lifespan: In the wild, Red-rumped Parrots have an average lifespan of 10-15 years. However, with proper care and a suitable environment, they can live up to 20 years or more in captivity.

Breeding: These parrots usually breed during the spring and summer months. They build their nests in tree hollows or crevices, lining them with leaves and wood chips. The female lays a clutch of 4-6 eggs, which she incubates for about 19-21 days. Both parents take turns caring for the eggs and raising the chicks.

Diet and Feeding: Red-rumped Parrots primarily feed on a variety of grass seeds, fruits, berries, and blossoms. In captivity, a balanced diet for them would include a mix of high-quality parrot pellets, fresh fruits, vegetables, and occasional treats like millet or other small seeds. Fresh water should always be available. Red-rumped Parrots are known for their social nature and can be kept in pairs or small groups. They enjoy flying and should be provided with ample space to exercise. Providing them with toys, perches, and opportunities for mental stimulation is important for their well-being.
